The Today page, with the date, the weather, the sun's arc and how the length of the day is changing.

One quiet, dark page that shows what the day outside is like, what needs me today, which threads of work and life deserve attention, and what's on the horizon. An AI assistant helps keep it current.

Why I started

I wanted a home screen for the day that felt more like the first page of a newspaper than a dashboard. It should be calm to look at, and know a little about both the sky and my week.

What it does

  • Today: the weather and forecast, the sun’s arc with dawn and sunset, how the days are lengthening or shortening, the next solstice, and one question for the day.
  • Focus: today’s commitments and tasks, and tomorrow’s only when something needs preparing now.
  • Threads: the few strands of work, writing, learning and family that matter at the moment, each with an honest next step.
  • Horizon: the next adventure, planned or suggested.
  • iPhone and Mac widgets show one line from each part.

Approach

The information comes in three kinds: what can be calculated, what can be measured, and what needs judgement. Only the last one is written, by me or by an assistant, so everything else stays exact. It’s a private page with a deliberately low-glare design: warm dark tones, editorial photography and navigation that nearly disappears.
